Can BLAZUSIAK Resist?

That’s the question! The stunning season opener in Krakow gave us great quality riding, action, and the triumphant return of Taddy BLAZUSIAK (PL-KTM). And so just five days after New Year, the elite of the World SuperEnduro Championship will take to the start line once again on Saturday, January 6 at the SachsenArena Riesa.

Motorsportverein Riesa and Eventmanufactur Auerswald are now experienced organisers. Indeed, this is the fourth year in a row that they have organised a round of the FIM Maxxis SuperEnduro World Championship with the support of the DMSB.

Ready and waiting!

With huge success in Saxony, "Eventmanufactur Auerswald" and the Motorsportverein Riesa are currently among the most experienced organisers of the series. Very fond of their city of Riesa, they have chosen the SachsenArena and its 6,000 seat capacity again to host the second round of the 2018 championship.

Riesa is located in former East Germany, more precisely in the region of Saxony. With about 34,000 inhabitants, Riesa is the largest city in the district of Meissen, and it borders the banks of the Elbe. It is located 90 km east of Leipzig and 70 km southwest of Dresden.

A complete entry list with riders from more than 23 nations in both categories, the 4th running of the German Grand Prix will thrill a capacity crowd, and the passionate motorsport fans will likely continue their New Year celebrations long into the night.

HAAKER & WALKER must react…

King Taddy BLAZUSIAK returned to competition and made his mark with a win in front of his home crowd at the Tauron Arena in Krakow (Poland). The six-time World Champion will arrive in Saxony with a slim title lead, and he will want to work hard to keep his 24MX Leader’s Plate...

Indeed, 2017 Endurocross Champion Cody WEBB (USA - KTM) was in good shape a month ago in Poland, winning two of the three finals. Only his "poor performance" in the second final prevented him from starting the season with the red leader plate. BLAZUSIAK will have to work to prevent the Californian from taking the lead in the Prestige category.
The factory KTM rider will also have to keep a lid on the rookie and current third place rider, Billy BOLT (GB - Husqvarna), who took a race victory in his first  ever SuperEnduro. And Alfredo GOMEZ (E) will also be hungry for more...
4th overall, Manuel LETTENBICHLER (D - KTM) will play at home and will be keen to get a first podium in Prestige after a good GP of Poland.
For their part, Colton HAAKER (USA - Husqvarna) and Jonny WALKER (GB - KTM), who both had a disappointing night in Krakow, will be forced to raise the bar or lose a lot of ground in the battle for the title...
Finally, after an encouraging first round, EnduroGP riders Danny MCCANNEY (GB - Gas Gas), Alex SALVINI (I - Husqvarna) and Cristobal GUERRERO (E - Yamaha), could well return from the holidays fresh and ready to place themselves among the specialists of discipline…
Keep an eye also on the performances of Eloi SALSENCH (E - Beta), Benjamin HERRERA (CL - TM), Joan Pau SEGURA (E - KTM) and Aurélien ADDESSO (F - Beta).  As well as 2017 World Junior Champion, Blake GUTZEIT (RSA - Yamaha), who will want to impress in Germany as he rides with the Yamaha Neubert team.

Junior: FLANAGAN wants to confirm…

We have noticed several surprises in Poland ... starting with the shock elimination of one of the favourites for the season: Max VIAL (F - Husqvarna)! The Frenchman is already 43 points behind the leader: Kyle FLANAGAN (RSA - Yamaha).
Like BLAZUSIAK in Prestige, the South African rider was consistent at the Tauron Arena. Never a heat winner, he knew how to play his part and stay calm, allowing him to leave with the 24MX Leader’s Plate. But the Yamaha Neubert rider has just one point advantage ahead of the surprise of the beginning of the season: Matteo CAVALLO (I - Beta Boano). The EnduroGP rider showed he could compete with the future stars of the discipline and he is already positioning himself as a title favourite.
But beware also of the Polish hopefuls, Emil JUSZCZAK (Sherco) and Oskar KACZMARCZYK (KTM), who performed well at home, and remain very close to the leader. Also watch out for the young Chilean Diego HERRERA (TM).
On the other hand, the crowd in the SachsenArena should only have eyes for the current 4th place rider: Kevin GALLAS (Husqvarna). The strong German won his first heat in Poland and seems to have the weapons to fight for the crown against FLANAGAN, JUSZCZAK, CAVALLO and others...
A "National" event will also complete the sporting programme of this event.

After an explosive season opener in Krakow, the question is whether BLAZUSIAK, can resist the armada of top guns that are WEBB, BOLT, GOMEZ, HAAKER and WALKER. See you at 18:00 CET this Saturday, January 6 at the SachsenArena in Riesa where the stars of the SEWC are waiting for you once again, fighting for victories under very high tension!
