Three years after a historic and dramatic final in the Las Rozas arena that saw Colton HAAKER (USA - Husqvarna) win his first World Championship title on the last lap to the detriment of Cody WEBB (USA - KTM), the Maxxis FIM SuperEnduro World Championship is back in Madrid this Saturday, January 26th!
For the second year in a row, FIM and ABC Communication have entrusted German ESTRADE and his Xtreme Show Events team with the privilege of organising a round of the SEWC.
After Malaga in 2018, the Xtreme Show Events team have decided to move further north, to the Iberian capital: Madrid! German ESTRADE has also chosen the Caja Magica as home of this SuperEnduro round at the end of January...
Spain's Tennis Hall, the Caja Magica, hosts the Tennis Masters of Madrid as well as many minor tennis tournament. This venue, opened in 2009, also hosted the Men's World Handball Championships in 2013 and was also used for basketball matches by the Real Madrid team. It is an arena which has seen a lot of action which will now welcome the stars of SuperEnduro, where they’ll fight it out in this third round of the season!
Does HAAKER have an answer for WEBB & BLAZUSIAK ?
Despite winning two races, Cody WEBB almost missed out on the victory in Germany at the beginning of this month. But in the end, the Californian does indeed arrive in Madrid with the red 24MX Leader Plate and a slender advantage of 2 points on his teammate at KTM Factory Racing, Taddy BLAZUSIAK (PL - KTM) and 8 points on Colton HAAKER. The reigning Champion will therefore have to work to maintain or even strengthen his meagre advantage...
Especially since BLAZUSIAK, winner of Round 1 in Krakow, has proven that he still has plenty of desire to win and he is determined to go for his 7th crown and make his mark in the SuperEnduro history books once again!
Third in the standings, Colton HAAKER is still looking for his first victory in 2019, a victory that could well open the floodgates for the factory Husqvarna rider, especially as he has good memories of Madrid 2016...
Behind this impressive trio, while Alfredo GOMEZ (E - Husqvarna) cannot defend his position after dislocating his left elbow in Germany, Kevin GALLAS (D - Husqvarna), Cristobal GUERRERO (E - Yamaha) and Pol TARRES (E - Husqvarna) should offer us a nice battle for the other two places in the Top 5.
Blake GUTZEIT (RSA - Husqvarna) could well be on good form too, as could Diogo VIEIRA (P - Yamaha) who has improved a lot this season. So we could have five riders or more capable of mixing it up at the front, but who will come out on top?
Locals Jose Maria JUAN BERNABEU (Sherco), Xavi LEON SOLE (Husqvarna) and Alex GRAU SANZ (Sherco) will also be eager to shine in front of their home fans while Russian David LEONOV (Husqvarna) will want to make up for his disappointing evening in the SachsenArena de Riesa (Germany).
Can APOLLE do it again?
In the Juniors, the current leader William HOARE (GB - Husqvarna) already has more than one win’s advantage over nearest rival Tim APOLLE (D - KTM)...
The German was the only one to beat the Briton three weeks ago at Riesa's SachsenArena and many fans are wondering if he can do it again and become a serious and consistent rival to HOARE over the rest of the season.
Behind HOARE and APOLLE, David CYPRIAN (CZ - KTM), Diego HERRERA (CL - TM), Norbert Levente JOSZA (RO - Husqvarna), Leon HENTSCHEL (D - KTM) and David OLSZOWY (PL - KTM) are all capable of going for the podium or even the victory. This third round should be very exciting and unpredictable for the youngsters...
For his part, Raul GUIMERA (E - Sherco) will want to confirm his solid performance at the GP of Germany while Ivan PUEYO GIL (E - KTM), fourth in Krakow, will seek to come back strong at home after he failed to qualify in Riesa.
After two exhilarating rounds so far, the anticipating for the GP of Spain is building. Who from WEBB, BLAZUSIAK or HAAKER will make the difference? Can HOARE widen the gap?
