Sehr Gut!

For the fifth consecutive year, this German Grand Prix has been a great success, with the SachsenArena sold out once again. Let’s take a look back at a completely crazy night in the heart of Saxony...

German Victory

As was the case last season with Kevin GALLAS (D - Husqvarna), the 6,500 spectators of the SachsenArena Riesa could get fired up for one of their local riders who gave them a victory... Tim APOLLE (D - KTM), who has been on the Enduro scene since 2012, was able to win his very first overall Grand Prix with and 2nd and two 1sts! Even though he was given a 20-second penalty for cutting the first corner in the second race, the 2018 European Champion showed he had the speed to fight with the current boss of the Junior category, William HOARE (GB - Husqvarna)... The Brit may well have found his main rival this season!

Infirmary

After an impressive return from injury at the GP of Poland where he won the third race, Alfredo GOMEZ (E - Husqvarna) is sadly back in the ‘infirmary’... the unlucky Spaniard fell against the barriers on the grandstands with his teammate Colton HAAKER (USA), his left arm cushioning the blow. As a result of this the Madrileno dislocated his left elbow and will be absent from his Grand Prix in two weeks at the Caja Magica of Madrid. The whole SuperEnduro family joins us in wishing him a quick recovery and we hope to see him behind the gate for Round 4 in Budapest (Hungary).

Ministerial Visit

For the first time since the Maxxis FIM SuperEnduro World Championship was held in Riesa, the Ministerial-President of Saxony, Michael KRETSCHMER came to watch the show. A fan of motorsports since his youth and himself a motorcycle rider, the ministerial-president opened the evening and was impressed by the technique and the speed of the riders on this technical track...

KNIGHT So Close…

The European class was a busy one with with Robert SCHARL (D - Husqvarna), Marcel TEUCHER (D - KTM), Norbert ZSIGOVITS (H - KTM) and Kacper BACLARZ (PL - KTM) all keen...but there was a stand-out performance on Saturday night from Tom KNIGHT (GB - Gas Gas)! The nephew of legend David KNIGHT (GB) came very close to victory. After winning the first race, the second race, with reverse start, was more difficult for him since he finished only 8th. He fell short of the victory by 6 points, as localman Pascal SPRINGMANN (Beta) won, and Jonathan ROSSE (Yamaha), completed the Top 3!

Tribute Trophy

At the beginning of June last year, we learned of the death of a former Enduro driver and kingpin of this German GP: Patrick HESS. ABC Communication and Auerswald Eventmanufaktur were very saddened by his loss. To honour his memory, Dan & Tobias AUERSWALD decided to create the "Patrick HESS Trophy" which rewards the best young rider in the European category. For this first edition, it was therefore Tom KNIGHT who won this special honourary trophy in memory of an endearing person and whose legacy went into the running of this round of SuperEnduro in Germany...

Scott Best Lap

As in Krakow a month ago, William HOARE was the quickest Junior in the race as he took the fastest lap in 00'44''057 and won the Scott Best Lap award again. Over in the Prestige class, things were much more tense and close, Cody WEBB (USA - KTM) was hoping to leave Germany with the Best Lap plaque, but in the last race Colton HAAKER set a crazy quick time of 00'38''401 and stole the Scott Best Lap!

Spain in the Spotlight

Although Spain lost one of its stars, GOMEZ, during the second round, his compatriots Pol TARRES (E - Husqvarna) and Cristobal GUERRERO (E - Yamaha) stepped up the plate well during the evening... TARRES seems to be getting the grip with the discipline and he finished 6th/5th/4th to snatch a Top 5 overall finish by 3 points on local star Kevin GALLAS (Husqvarna). While GUERRERO pulled off a convincing return to competition with a solid 5th/4th/5th which allowed him his best SuperEnduro performance so far (4th overall). The Andalusian, who headed to the US to ride Endurocross last summer, has made good progress since his best result last year was 8th (in Germany and Spain) while TARRES has also made great progress since he had to settle for 8th place in Krakow (Poland) at the beginning of December...
